Book Launch: Eleni Elefterias Kostakidis

  • Sun 30 November 4pm

21 Sheperd St, Marrickville

The Living Room Theatre is proud to host the official launch of Whose Is This Song?—a powerful new anthology compiled and edited by Eleni Elefterias Kostakidis, a central figure in Sydney’s Greek cultural life. Eleni’s creative restlessness has shaped the city for decades: from founding the Greek Bilingual Bookshop to championing Greek language, human rights, and shared cultural histories. Her latest project brings together some of Australia’s leading Greek and Balkan writers to explore a deceptively simple question: who owns a song?

Inspired by Adela Peeva’s documentary of the same name, the book delves into the complex terrain of Balkan nationalism, shared culture, and the deep emotional currents that run through music. Contributors—including Dr Alfred Vincent, Professor Vrasidas Karalis, Dr Helen Vatsikopoulos, Costa Vertzayias, and many others—investigate how a single melody can ignite pride, conflict, and connection across borders.

Join us at LRT’s new home at 21 Shepherd Street, Marrickville—an apt setting in the heart of the former “Greek Precinct.” The launch will feature live music by Felicia Harris, Yannis Bardas, Marina Thiveos, and John Coombs, with MC Lorraine-Nia Gitsas. A Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony will be led by Uncle John Dickson.

Books will be available for purchase on the day.
