About the Artists
Mikaela Sora is a pianist and improviser based in Eora (Sydney). Classically trained at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, her work is deeply personal and draws on the colours and bell-like qualities of the piano. Mikaela has performed extensively in Australia and internationally, and worked with artists including Phil Slater and Carl Dewhurst.
Ewan Jackson is a guitarist and improviser with a uniquely dynamic touch on the instrument. Ewan’s background in songwriting and deep appreciation for popular song form has heavily informed his style. Having studied for over 20 years and with international guitar giants such as Julian Lage, John Wheatcroft and Ariel Posen, Ewan weaves between contemporary and traditional styles fluidly, resulting in a voice that is entirely his own.
Originally from Canberra, Harrison Whalan is a bass player who has recently moved up to Sydney. After finishing his jazz degree at ANU, he continued to work as a hired gun for various corporate and jazz bands in Canberra and the surrounding regions. He remains a member of the jazz guitar trio “The Uebergang”. Harrison prides himself on being a chameleon on the bandstand and disappearing into whatever role is required for the gig. His electric bass playing is influenced by funk legends such as James Jamerson and Joe Dart, and for his upright playing, he loves Ron Carter and Christian McBride.
Originally from the UK, Chela is a drummer whose playing blends jazz, fusion, swing, funk, and breakbeat influences. Passionate about improvisation and groove, he enjoys combining traditional jazz language with contemporary rhythms to create a dynamic and musical approach to performance. He has toured internationally, appeared on the bill at Glastonbury Festival, and performed alongside acclaimed drummer Richard Spaven.
