Ephemera Quartet is a musical exploration of celestial landscapes: pulsars, craters, planetary atmospheres, stars, the sun and the void. Blending contemporary jazz, classical influences, space sound recordings and visual projections, the ensemble creates an immersive and distinctive sonic experience.

Led by composer, pianist and flautist Keyna Wilkins, the quartet features Elsen Price (double bass, loop pedal), Will Gilbert (trumpet) and Shane Carpini (drums). Their performances weave composed works with free improvisation, drawing on the unique musical voices of each performer.

At the heart of the project are recordings of electromagnetic waves captured from planets and stars by NASA missions, curated by astronomer Professor Paul Francis and often paired with footage from space probes. These cosmic sounds serve as a backdrop for music that responds organically to ideas of space, universality and human wonder.

Since forming in 2015, Ephemera Quartet has performed throughout Australia and internationally, including six concerts in Japan. Festival and venue appearances include MONA Evenings, Extended Play Festival of New Music at City Recital Hall, Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival, Foundry 616, Red Rattler, Woodburn Creatives and Uptown Jazz Café Melbourne.

The ensemble has released two acclaimed albums, Orbits and Riffs (2017) and Blackholes and Modulations (2021), with a third album launching at this special event.
