PRESENTED BY THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF AUSTRALASIA

TANGENTS

Ollie Bown (electronics)
Evan Dorrian (drums)
Peter Hollo (cello)
Adrian Lim-Klumpes (piano, keys, mallets)

Tangents formed for a live improvised gig at Megaphon Studios, Sydney in 2010, which was recorded and subsequently became their first album I (2013). In 2016 their second album, Stateless, developing their characteristic collage electronic post-production style, saw them signed to Brooklyn Label Temporary Residence. 2018’s New Bodies was nominated for the Australian Music Prize. Their most recent double album, 2021’s Timeslips & Chimeras, continues their collaboration with Temporary Residence.

The band has performed widely around Australia, from the ABC to FBi and from the Sydney Opera House to Womadelaide. In 2019 they produced an experimental sound work for the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney, based on concepts of automation, generation and long form composition, inspired by the Powerhouse Museum’s player piano collection.

Tangents are Ollie Bown (electronics), Evan Dorrian (drums), Peter Hollo (cello) and Adrian Lim-Klumpes (piano, keys, mallets). Sia Ahmad (guitar) is a former member featuring on all Tangents albums to date.

  • “It often feels more like the stream of consciousness from some sort of supernatural, unitary musical mind, like one voice speaking to you in a beautiful but not fully comprehended language… there’s truly very little else like it.” – Dusted Magazine
  • “Disparate parts that melt into unexpected harmony… a triumph of ensembleship.” – Treble Zine
  • “The sublimely organic back and forth between improvised and painstakingly constructed music is really something to stare in awe at.” – Everything is Noise
