THE WEATHERBIRDS

Weatherbirds is the joyous musical collaboration between trumpeter Bernice Tesara and saxophonist/pianist Max Leggott. The idea bred on the grounds of the Sydney Conservatorium, their music pays homage to jazz standards, the claves of Cam Undy, Greg Sheean’s rhythm diamonds and the chordless quartets of Gerry Mulligan.

EPHEMERA QUARTET

“Hypnotic, transformative” DOWNTOWN MUSIC, NEW YORK

“Full of sonic texturfes and infinite possibilities” THE MUSIC TRUST

Ephemera: a musical exploration of celestial landscapes such as pulsars, craters, planetary atmospheres, stars, sun and void. Merging the sound worlds of jazz and contemporary classical, and set to real space sounds and projections, it is a unique sonic experience.

The ensemble is led by Keyna Wilkins (piano/flute/compositions) with Elsen Price (double bass/loop pedal), Will Gilbert (trumpet) with new addition of Jodie Michael (drumset) and includes freely improvised pieces. NASA recordings of electromagnetic waves from planets and stars is the backdrop soundtrack and has been complied by astronomer Professor Paul Francis often with projections of space probe footage. Each member brings their own unique voice to the ensemble drawing from a multitude of musical backgrounds who combine to create a distinctive sound world that organically react to stellar concepts. Universe and Universality. They have released 2 albums on all streaming platforms: Blackholes and Modulations (2021) and Orbits and Riffs (2017).

Formed in 2015, this ensemble have performed internationally and around Australia including 6 concerts in Japan, being featured at MONA Evenings Series, Extended Play Festival of New Music at City Recital Hall and Sydney International Womens’ Jazz Festival, at Foundry 616, Red Rattler, Woodburn Creatives and Melbourne’s Uptown Jazz Cafe and many more.
