Between Voices #2

Hinges

Hinges is a newly formed improvising trio featuring Samuel Dobson, Gabriella Hill, and Nic Cassey. Their music draws on images of playground swings and the opening and closing of doors—moments of motion, suspension, and return.

Samuel plays double bass and objects, Gabriella plays clarinet and occasionally saxophone, and Nic plays drums and found percussion. Together, they pivot around a shifting centre, moving as a single unit, with each new encounter hinging on what has come before.

This will be their debut performance.

Gabriella Hill — clarinet / saxophone
Sam Dobson — double bass
Nic Cassey — drums / found percussion

Heaps Grass

Drifting effortlessly between dream-like textures, rich harmony, simmering grooves and soaring melody, Heaps Grass’ experimental folk sound is shaped by a deep sensitivity to atmosphere and an openness that gives their music both intimacy and an expansive emotional reach. Evoking the nostalgia and quiet vastness of the Australian coastline where they each grew up, their songs unfold with a cinematic warmth — immersive, reflective and quietly transportive.

The trio released their debut EP in March 2025, recorded at Golden Retriever Studios, and quickly established themselves through extensive touring across the east coast and beyond. With a second EP on the horizon for mid-2026, Heaps Grass represents a new generation of Australian artists whose musical maturity belies their years.

Jack Rosenzweig — Drums
