For 25 years, The Living Room Theatre has carried its work into borrowed, temporary, and abandoned spaces. From warehouses to office blocks, from hidden corners of the city to places marked by hurt and absence, we have created performances that transform the ordinary into sites of revelation.

Now, for the first time, we have a home.

Our new space at 21 Shepherd Street is more than a venue—it is our vision made tangible. It is a sanctuary for experimental performance and a centre for artistic research. It is designed not as a conventional black box, but as a home: a place of trust, intimacy, and transformation where artists, audiences, and scholars can gather.

What a studio is to a painter, this home will be to our performative research. In a studio, brushes, paints, and canvases are not packed away at the end of the day—they remain, waiting for the next stroke.

The work holds its breath, suspended in motion, gathering momentum until it is complete. That is what 21 Shepherd Street gives us: continuity, stability, and the courage to let ideas remain alive in the space, evolving day by day.

This move is not simply about bricks and mortar. It is about allowing our research to deepen, our collaborations to expand, and our commitment to confronting the silences around violence against women to continue with rigour, care, and artistic urgency.

The venue will serve as:

• A dedicated base for the development and rehearsal of LRT’s work.
• An affordable hub for independent artists, fostering a culture of exchange.
• A visible anchor for LRT within the community and the wider arts ecology.

We know the importance of place. To finally have one of our own means we can build momentum that doesn’t need to be dismantled at the end of a season. It means we can invest in relationships—with artists, with audiences, with our neighbours—that can grow across years, not weeks.

We are building a home for brave work.
